Introduction
September 14, 2008
This is my 8th class in the MLIS class at St. Kates. I am looking forward to finally becoming more comfortable with all of the technologies that I have heard about but had little chance to play around with. The things that I am thinking about have most to do with the meaning and effect of all of this:
- How does all of this “continuous computing” and being plugged in all of time affect basic concepts–work time vs. social time, public vs. private, relaxing vs. “being on”–it all seems to be blurring together.
- What is the difference, in this age of instant access to information, between knowledge and intelligence? With all of the access, are people smarter, in that they have assimilated information and made sense of it, or do they just “know” more stuff, in the form of bits of unrelated information?
Looking forward to an interesting semester!
