Shyly Seeking Techno-approval

I used to say I was technologically savvy. I would scoff at my dear friends who just got their facebook page, didn’t have some form of smartphone, and thought that the Kindle was the downfall of society. After taking the class this weekend, it has become apparent to me that a: I should never, ever pretend to be an e

xpert at anything unless I can back it up, and b: I have a lot to learn. But I think I knew this before… somewhere… in the back of my mind. That is why I’m taking this class.

Okay, the main reason I’m very interested in Library 2.0 is to have the opportunity to help my current library get caught up with the changing cultural landscape. I am fairly knowledgeable about some aspects, but others (Second Life, Twitter, and Tumblr, I’m looking at you!) I need

serious help. Library 2.0 thinking is the direction that libraries must go, and there are a lot of new (including myself) and established librarians that need help. There are so many opportunities that librarians are missing to teach the community, but, without the basic knowledge, how can a librarian teach? That’s where this class comes in for me.

About me… I’m a proofreader by day, reference librarian by night. Ilike shiny things. I’m also a cat lady. I can’t wait to be a librarian so I can finally throw away my contacts and fully embrace the glasses-wearing lifestyle.

Zoe cat!

Funny, isn’t it? I thought I was quite tech-savvy too, lucky to have been born/grow up exactly as computing took off. I was at the right age/in the right environment to teach myself everything, beginning with Number Munchers on an Apple-IIe on up through word processing, Prodigy, e-mail, AOL chat, Napster, webjournals, the blogosphere, and social networking. But it’s suddenly moving so fast! They do say technology grows exponentially.

Now that all of us LIS768-ers are connected, though, how much easier it will be to keep abreast and help each other out!

I also look forward to learning about Second Life, Twitter, and Tumblr. Second Life in particular–talk about a great environment for the socially awkward! :)

    Cute kitty!
