Fall Practicum Step One
Well I can’t believe it, but I am finally coming to the point in my library school career where I am going to take a practicum. Without putting the cart before the horse, I will say that I took the first step towards that today. I met with Lenora at the GSLIS office and discussed [...]

Thanks for wanting to cite the paper. It was never published in a journal or book. It was written for a class at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, and because all of the students had their own class blogs, I posted the paper to mine. LIS768 is the class number. LIS stands for Library

In January of this year, I began an Independent Study under the guidance of Michael Stephens. On February 14, 2010, I posted that: “The purpose of this study is to create readers’ advisory tools that utilize Web 2.0 technology.” During the past four months I have spent time: reviewing literature that is relevant to the

Glad you got something out of our talks. It was great to be back on campus in the classroom with LIS students.
Let me know if you have any questions and best of luck with your project!

On Friday, April 16th, we had our last class in Advanced Web Design for the Spring 2010 semester and as with all of our previous classes, it was a day filled with innovation and information. Kate had arranged for a handful of speakers, librarians who are also Drupal experts, to speak to us on the

I just realized that it has already been a full semester since my last LIS 768 class. Yes, it is sad. I have actually taken my of the knowledge and skills in that class and integrated them into my life.
Beyond, class things are so busy. Isn’t funny how everything in your life seems to coincide

Two weeks ago, I posted the results from the Readers’ Advisory survey. The survey results indicated that a majority (88%) of the survey respondents use the website. I hope this is indicative of the greater public library population, but it is hard to say because the survey respondents were a relatively small group. Either way,

Although this week’s post doesn’t address web 2.0 tools in relationship to readers’ advisory , it does address the importance and relevance of social media websites in 2010.
About a week ago, I received my copy of the April 2010 issue of the Illinois Library Association Reporter. Inside the Reporter, I found a one page article

As I mentioned in a previous post, I created a small survey so that I could informally survey the patrons of my local public library to learn what Readers Advisory services would benefit them. I distributed the survey to a group of library patrons and received 25 responses. Here are the responses:

In a recent post, I talked about the Hennepin County Library in Minneapolis, MN and the many ways that they are currently utilizing Web 2.0 tools to provide readers’ advisory. This week I am going to focus on Skokie Public Library. In September of 2009, I had the opportunity to visit Skokie Public Library and

As my Independent Study moves along, I continue to read relevant literature and evaluate other public library websites. This past week, I created a small survey with which I plan to informally survey the patrons of my local public library to learn what services would benefit them. I distributed the survey to a group of
